New Release

2004 Right Bank Red, Columbia Valley
50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc. What a great blend. These grapes form a perfect yin/yang. The Cabernet Franc gives floral notes and lengthens the flavor profile of the Merlot which likes to fit in the middle of the palate.
Serve this with most hearty dishes - grilled meats, rich vegetable dishes, and roasts.

Chalkboard & Events
This is where happenings are announced: a new release of wine, an event, a seasonal greeting, or just whimsy.

Concerts at the Winery

Each summer Vashon Winery hosts an interesting melange of concerts. Past performers include poets David Wagoner (2007), Samuel Green (2008), mythologist Michael Meade, pianist Scott Cossu, Island Jazz Quintet, Folk Festival with 10 bands, Danny O'Keefe, and Mark Graham with Orville Johnson, and Larry Murante.

In 2009 we hope to sponsor a poetry workshop finishing with a reading at the winery, an Island-wide Jazz Festival and again a Folk Festival.

PAST EVENTS

Michael Meade

An evening of stories and poems that consider the origins and mysteries, the delights and seductions of the fruits of the vine and the depths of the wine.

Islander Michael Meade is a nationally renowned and respected storyteller and mythologist who spins his wit and intelligence exploring our world.

Meade says, ”Wine and the soul have always been entwined; both tend to improve and develop character as they age. The vine has always been connected to the divine whether it be to Bacchus and the dance of the “Bacchantes” or the shape-shifting revelations of Dionysus the lord of ecstasy and theater. The eternal vine winds its way through the valleys and hillsides of the world and through the hearts and minds of humankind. "

Island Jazz Quintet

The Island Jazz Quintet played at the winery outdoors, as kind of a wine(d) down from the long weekend.

Danny O’Keefe

Danny is a pro, his stage presence and voice immediate and compelling; his songs thoughtful, lyrical, and entertaining.

Vashon Winery Folk Festival

A host of singers and bands, many islanders and some from town, played continuous folk music throughout the day. There was one stage but many little gatherings of musicians. Headlining the event was Larry Murante with musical vignettes from others.

Murante, one of the NW's finest contemporary singer-songwriters, offers compassionate, socially conscious lyrics, but keeps the delivery upbeat and joyful, in an energetic folk/rock style.

Samuel Green

Washington State’s first Poet Laureate, Samuel Green, read from his new book, The Grace of Necessity, as well as reading works of other poets.

Born and raised in Sedro-Woolley and Anacortes and having lived on a remote island, his words are like the green moss of ancient trees talking to us.

Samuel Green currently teaches at Seattle University and has for many years in partnership with his wife, Sally, acted as editor, publisher and printer of poetry books for Brooding Heron Press.
